B-double trucks and pedestrian crossings don’t mix
The RTA’s proposed upgrade of the Great Western Highway between Mt Victoria and Lithgow shows the Australian and NSW governments intend to turn the highway, with its nearly 40 different speed zones, 10 school zones, 21 sets of traffic lights and 17 villages, into a road freight corridor for 25+ metre B-double trucks.
And like us, the truck drivers deserve a safe road too!
Long term solution needed NOW
The Australian and NSW governments must implement a long term integrated rail road transport plan. Wasting $600 million on an M4-style freeway between Mt Victoria and Lithgow will only compound the safety problems of our highway through the mountains. By abandoning the RTA’s proposed upgrade and doing only a safety upgrade of Victoria Pass and safety improvements along the Bells Line of Road, the Government would be fulfilling the wishes of residents of the Blue Mountains and the Central West.
Act now!
Help us stop the highway from becoming a B-double freight corridor before it’s too late.
