Letter writing

pen-to-paperYour letter will be essential in supporting the work of the highway action groups committees in their work and meetings with politicians, as well as the work of the broader Blue Mountains highway safety movement.  By receiving letters from a variety of people expressing a consistent but differently stated view supporting our aim that the government should reconsider the RTA’s current proposal regarding Mt. Victoria and the Hartley Valley, you will be multiplying the effect of the committee’s request several times over. Generally politicians regard a single letter as being equivalent to the views of five or six people.

We urge you to write now: Please refer to the sample letters below. Ideally you should write letters about the things you think are important in this matter and in your own personal style. If you are a Mt. Victoria or Hartley resident tell them how long you have lived here, tell them why Mt. Victoria and the Hartley Valley is important.  It doesn’t matter whether letters are handwritten or typed. You can email your letters or post them, the latter is preferred, because it suggests more trouble has been taken. There is no reason why you shouldn’t write exactly the same letter to a number of different people. If you can manage both email and post please do so. You can cut and paste from the example letters below.

Please be aware that your efforts will be more effective if your letters petition on behalf of the whole community rather than try to promote the cause of a small section at the expense of the whole; the ‘divide and conquer’ principle is often employed as a strategy when those in power are trying to push their agenda.

Please see below links to download four form letters to help you and others submit their objections. We encourage everyone to print them out and distribute among neighbours friends and families.

Every letter needs to have the persons full name and address on the top right and their signature and be sent to the RTA reply paid address situated on the top left hand side of the letter.

We would also ask that a copy of the letter be sent to Mr Phil Koperberg at 107-109 Macquarie Street Springwood (postage stamp required). To save any inconvenience the MVHBAG is prepared to collect any signed letters, copy them and send off on the signatories behalf, in addition we shall have collection boxes in place around the village if people would like to drop them off. Keep a look out for them!
